I guess technically I didn’t total it. The guy who ran over the top of it with his Ford Focus totaled it. I wasn’t even in it at the time (thanks to God). The car was, however, in my care when it all went down.
Here’s the short version: I was leading a Hispanic home bible study on Jackson Ave. in Memphis one Wednesday night. I had borrowed my neighbor’s car because Amanda needed ours (we only have one). We had just begun the study when there was some ruckus and then a very large BLAM! We ran to the window just in time to see a green Focus wedge itself off the top of the car and speed away. We called the police.
Now for the cool part: Brenda, the girlfriend of the man who totaled the car, was in the bible study when it happened. She hardly ever came because he wouldn’t let her. He was arrested and deported for his actions. Brenda and her daughter (six-years-old) were then able to start attending the study regularly. Soon after, Brenda’s brother moved in with her to help make ends meet.
About 3 weeks after the car incident we were all sitting in the living room reading from God’s word. One by one all three members of that family began to confess that they felt empty and that they needed Jesus in their lives. We all got on our knees in a circle and they begin to pour their hearts out to God. They gave their lives to Jesus. On my way home that night I called Randy (my neighbor) to tell him the amazing way God had used his car in these people’s lives. He said that it was definitely worth a Mazda.
