A Selection

Here are a few of Sophia’s latest letter learning activities.

Amanda has a great community of moms at MABTS housing. They have been an immense encouragement to her as she learns how to be a mom that walks with Jesus.

School (Sam’s in)

Sophia has been learning her alphabet one letter at a time. Now, Sam is catching the learning/creating/having fun spirit. He just finished his first work of art.

Here at MABTS, folks are all about helping people be in right relationship with God. That job doesn’t only take place outside the apartment complex. Moms are making disciples everyday with their kids.

Her Perspective

Sophia has a digital camera. Gingy (her grandma) bought it for her when she turned 3.

Sophia’s indomitable joy for life comes out in what she says. Now, I can see it coming out in what she sees.

How she frames life.

She takes pictures of things that make her happy . . . me dancing . . . riding bikes . . . her playroom . . . a craft she and her mama made . . . her brother.

Fiery Furnace

[Driving in the car and eating a donut.]

Me: Sophia, do you remember the story we read last night?

Sophia: What?

Me: The story about the fiery furnace. Do you remember that?

Sophia. Yeah! But, daddy, are you taking care of me?

Me: Of course! And, better yet, God is taking care of you just like he took care of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace.

Sophia: Is God gonna take care of me in the fiery furnace?

Me: Yup! And, he’s also going to take care of you when bad things happen or you have to do something really hard.

Sophia: Daddy, when I have to do a really hard puzzle, God is taking care of me.

Failure to Yield

When I look at the pictures below, one of two things can happen inside of me.

1) Fear. Panic. The idea that Amanda, Sophia, and Samuel could have been killed at an intersection on Germantown Pkwy while I sat at home reading for class is almost more than I can hold down.

2) Joy. Hope. Assurance. God is with us. God is for us. I know, ultimately, my little kiddos and precious wife are in his hands. He is our life. And, no matter what happens, good or bad, he is God and we can trust him.

Now, when I pass through that intersection my heart swells with thanksgiving. Gratefulness to the only one who is able and true and faithful. He, Yahweh, is our God. There is no other.

L’s

Sophia has trouble with them. The other day her grandparents took her down to the playground in her lion suit. Sophia’s little friend, Lilly, was there. Sophia said the following:

Yook Yiyy. Do you yike my yion suit?

Interpretation: Look, Lilly. Do you like my lion suit?
